Hon. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree

It is often said that there is something in a name or about names that produce certain expressions or qualities in the personalities of the bearers. This has proved true in many cases. Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree is no doubt one of such personality whose life story is a bold expression of his name. He has repeatedly kept the flag flying in every endeavour he finds himself.

Born to the families of Late Chief Emmanuel Flag Amachree and Madam Roseline Agbani Pedro, both of Buguma in Asari toru Local Government Area, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree, rose from a humble background to carve a niche for himself, not just as a role model today but as an agent of positive change

In what started as a little beginning, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree after his primary education, attended Kalabari National College (KNC) Buguma, Army Day Secondary School, Bori Camp and later proceeded to bag a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from the present-day Rivers State University (RSU).

Through dint of hard work and exceptional managerial prowess, he became a successful private businessman and CEO of Agbani Minestone Enterprise - an Oil and Dredging services company based in the Niger Delta.

Coming into the limelight as President of Buguma Youth Council (BYC) in 2004, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree showed uncommon leadership in piloting the affairs of youths. In his reign that spanned 3years, he did not only bring BYC from obscurity to limelight but also became the rallying figure and hope for his people and society at large.

This desire to bring about positive change in society led to his foray into politics. Having had years of fruitful interaction with the people of Asalga and coupled with his managerial acumen evident in his business successes, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree presented himself for the Chairmanship of his LGA, first in 2007 during the short-lived Omehia's tenure but in what was a dramatic twist, the people’s mandate for him was taken away. When that administration ended, in 2008 he once again offered to serve his people as Council Chairman.

In what became a landmark event of that year, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree backed by a groundswell of his people's support and convergence of public goodwill was elected Chairman of Asari Toru Local Government Area, as the 7th democratically elected in the history of the LGA and the youngest to assume such position at the time.

On assumption of office, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree met an LGA whose glory had begun to wane. Comatose infrastructure and insecurity are among several indices of underdevelopment evident in the LGA.

Bringing his savvy and managerial acumen to bear, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree undertook what is described as the most ambitious LGA infrastructural development plan ever. He built durable basic infrastructures that changed the face of the LGA to this day, including land reclamation, roads and connection of virtually all the communities of the LGA to the National Grid as part of his effort to industrialize Asalga.

Having performed excellently in his three-year term, the people handed him a fresh mandate that was more overwhelming, breaking a long-standing jinx in the history of the LGA, as the first to be re-elected for a second term.

By the end of his two-time elected and twice Caretaker administrations, Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree has become the rave of the moment and reference point when it comes to local government administration in Nigeria. His excellent performance and developmental strides were recognized within and outside the state, notably the Best Chairman Award from the Federal House of Representatives among many other leadership awards.

As a gentleman with utmost dedication to duty, an insatiable appetite for excellence, highly intelligent, and man of the people, Hon Ojukaye Flag Amachree was later given higher responsibility of leadership when he emerged State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Rivers State. He led the party to garner so much vibrancy and popularity across the state and beyond. It is on record that the Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree's party chairmanship brought lots of sparkles in APC and arose great interest among Rivers people for the party. He enjoys great followership.
